Accounting Manager/Supervisor
Description We are looking for a skilled Accounting Manager to lead and optimize the financial operations of our luxury design firm based in San Francisco, California. This dynamic role involves overseeing accounting processes, managing payroll, driving budgeting initiatives, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities to support the organization's financial health and team development. Accounting Operations & Financial Management + Manage full-cycle accounting: bank reconciliations, cash receipts, general ledger maintenance. + Perform regular account reconciliations to ensure accuracy. + Maintain fixed asset records and track depreciation. + Lead weekly cash flow reviews and manage banking relationships. Payroll & Benefits Administration + Oversee payroll system and process bi-monthly payroll. + Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant compensation handling. Budgeting, Reporting & Analysis + Develop and manage company-wide budgets in partnership with leadership. + Prepare monthly financial reports and internal statements for executives. + Conduct trend and variance analysis to support business decisions. + Manage monthly close processes and ensure timely financial reporting. + Support forecasting for compensation, benefits, and staffing plans. Client Billing & Financial Support + Oversee client invoicing and proposal documentation. + Support client communications and follow-up routines. + Manage accounts payable processes, ensuring timely vendor payments and proper record-keeping. Team Leadership & Development + Hire, train, and mentor accounting staff. + Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs). + Streamline workflows using technology solutions. + Provide department-wide leadership to drive accountability and efficiency. Compliance & Internal Controls + Ensure accuracy of financial data and maintain regulatory compliance. + Coordinate with external CPA for tax filings and audits. + Establish and uphold internal financial standards and documentation practices. Core Competencies + Financial Expertise: Budgeting, financial modeling, trend analysis, month-end close. + Technical Proficiency: Excel, general ledger, fixed asset management, system reporting. + Leadership: Team management, process improvement, SOP development. + Compliance & Risk Management: Regulatory compliance, audit coordination, banking oversight. + Client & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Invoicing, proposal review, internal communication. Requirements + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. + 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within creative or project-driven industries. + Proficient in Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, DesignManager, or similar systems). + Proven leadership abilities with experience overseeing accounting teams. + Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. + Role requires a credit check, per California Labor Code §1024.5, due to access to sensitive financial information.
