Scope of Position:
The Accounting Clerk will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing and reporting of accounting transactions on behalf of The Salvation Army in the Marion/Polk County area. This position also provides general office support as needed. The work will require coordinating with the employees in the office and with Divisional Headquarters (DHQ).

General knowledge of bookkeeping principles. Proficient with current computer programs including Word, Excel, e-mail, internet, and standard office equipment and systems. Must possess integrity and trustworthiness, essential for work with an organization in which a great deal of public trust is placed.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Process routine accounting duties for Marion/Polk Counties, such as payable and receivable transactions, scanning documentation to e-mail to Divisional Headquarters, building and updating spreadsheets or databases, filing documents, etc. Process and create documentation for donation checks dropped off or mailed to the office. Research and resolve issues. Address donation issues and respond to donors in a timely manner. Prepare deposits for Kroc receipts, corps tithes and offerings, kettle income, etc. Take deposits to bank daily. Responsible for Petty Cash fund, disbursing and replenishing as directed in TSA policy and procedures. Work closely with staff to resolve issues with daily sales discrepancies in accounting systems. Process all invoices and monthly bills for Marion/Polk County, which include coding, attaching proper documentation, obtaining payment approval, and e-mailing to Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) in a timely manner. Review short-form agreements for accuracy and forward to signer. After signing, make electronic copies in preparation for quarterly reports to DHQ. Process all approved refund requests in a timely manner. Process and distribute incoming and outgoing mail on a daily basis Acts as liaison with Divisional Headquarters to resolve accounting issues. Assist in preparing and submitting required reports in a timely manner for designated funds, such as grants, to ensure reporting requirements are met with funding agencies. Prepare materials for both internal and external audits when necessary. Work closely and communicate effectively with staff from all departments. Assist Human Resource Coordinator and provide back-up as needed. All other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements:
Must be well groomed and adhere to the required dress code. Must be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer screen. Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel, push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds unassisted, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, talk, hear, have-eye hand coordination, have manual dexterity, speak and read, and working in noisy areas, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position. Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminishing performance.Working Conditions:
This position may have frequent phone and in person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated. This position will work with minimum supervision and that work involves some degree of independence.

Education and Work Experience:
Education – High School Diploma or equivalent is required, preferably supplemented by college or business school training. Work/Professional Experience – A minimum of one year in office/bookkeeping experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.License and Certifications:
