Accounting Clerk
Description We are looking for a dedicated Accounting Clerk to join a nonprofit organization in Sacramento, California. This Contract-to-permanent position offers an excellent opportunity to support financial operations, including accounts receivable and accounts payable, while contributing to the organization's charitable mission. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, familiarity with nonprofit accounting practices, and the ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven environment. Responsibilities: • Process and record incoming donations, grants, and payments, ensuring proper classification and compliance with nonprofit standards. • Manage donor accounts by generating invoices, tracking pledges, and ensuring timely follow-ups. • Review, input, and process vendor invoices for payment, adhering to established organizational budgets and timelines. • Prepare and reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable records using accounting software such as QuickBooks or CYMA. • Assist with monthly account reconciliations and the preparation of financial reports for internal review. • Ensure expenses are accurately coded to grants or restricted funding sources, maintaining compliance with nonprofit finance principles. • Collaborate with program managers and other departments to clarify invoices, donor contributions, or grant reporting requirements. • Support the year-end audit process by gathering required documentation and verifying the accuracy of financial records. • Maintain organized vendor and donor files, ensuring all documentation is complete and accessible. • Stay updated on nonprofit accounting guidelines and compliance requirements, including Form 990 reporting. Requirements • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. • Previous experience in accounts receivable and accounts payable roles, with nonprofit experience strongly preferred. • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks or CYMA, and familiarity with donor management databases like Raiser’s Edge or Blackbaud. • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including knowledge of pivot tables and formulas. • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and budget coding. • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. • Excellent communication skills, with a collaborative and detail-oriented approach. • Familiarity with nonprofit finance principles, including managing restricted and unrestricted revenues.
