The Opportunity
As an Accountant, you will be responsible for performing the Accounting functions in support of all project activities following all relevant US government and Abt Associates policies and procedures. Under direction of the Finance and Administrative (F&A) Manager, you will be responsible for records project financial transactions, posts to appropriate projects and tasks, prepares periodic financial statements and reports, and keeps the records of the accounts books up to date.
This is a fixed-term assignment until 12/31/2025.
Project Description
The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) Evolve Project, awarded to Abt Global in December 2022, supports national malaria programs with the planning, implementation, and monitoring of vector control interventions, including insecticide-treated nets (ITNs), indoor residual spraying (IRS), and essential entomological monitoring required to make vector control decisions.
Core Responsibilities
Records expenditures, income, and any other related transactions, in accounting system ensuring supporting documents are compliant with Abt and client policies and procedures Keeps a register of fixed assets and maintains an easy cross reference system of all government property. Prepares the weekly Remote Office Voucher (ROV) in accordance with Abt Associates procedures and policies. Ensures that periodic inventory of the fixed assets (property) of the company is conducted. Prepares payroll and other regular payments with consideration to deductions (for advances, loans, taxes, etc.) Consolidates payment voucher for review and approval by required signatories Initiates mobile money or electronic bank transactions Prepares monthly bank reconciliations. Checks petty cash payments and periodically reconciles petty cash balances. Ensures that the books of accounts are always up to date, orderly, well kept, and readily available for reference and audit, when required. Ensures all government taxes are paid on time Scan payment packages and all supporting documentation daily before documents are prepared for the payments. Prepares monthly cash requests, and promptly advises action required to cover estimated costs. Review advances on travel expenses, travel expense reports, monitor the travel history report and track staff on outstanding advances. Assists the Finance & Administration Manager in the implementation of the internal control system and financial procedures manual of the company. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Management, or other relevant field At least 2 years of professional experience in accounting and program fiscal management.Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, management, business, or another relevant field At least 4 years of professional experience in accounting and program fiscal management. Experience working at international development programs, with experience at US govenrment funded programs highly desirable. Strong command of financial and other computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, QuickBooks, Access, etc. Well-developed and effective organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and work in a high-pressure environment Fluent in French preferred; Working knowledge of English Experience in payroll management, petty cash management, financial reporting, and budget tracking.
