Contract Type Classified Salary If other, please specify Recruitment Type Open Position Details General Statement Disability Services directs and coordinates the provision of supportive services for students with disabilities in all areas of campus life. This office ensures equal access to programs and facilities at MSU-Bozeman for students with disabilities and increases campus awareness of and advocacy for students with disabilities. Duties and Responsibilities The Accessibility Specialist provides accommodation services to students with disabilities in order to guarantee equal educational access. The duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
Engage students in the interactive process in compliance with the standards of the ADA. Review confidential medical documentation to determine the functional limitations caused by a student’s disability. Engage in highly sensitive conversations with students, parents, and campus partners about disability related issues and impacts. Work collaboratively to coordinate academic, testing, and housing accommodations for MSU students. Meet confidentially with walk-in students to provide information on Disability Services processes and procedures. Provide education on disability related topics and resources for students, faculty, and staff through passive and active programming. Help ensure office coverage, including occasional management of the front desk and monitoring of the Disability Services email address. Coordinate test schedules with Testing Services. Coordinate accessible academic materials. Under the direction of the Director oversee mandated accommodations and ensure ADA accommodations are being delivered in a timely and efficient manner. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree in social work, vocational counseling, education, psychology, or related field and/or demonstrated progressive experience in a higher education or equivalent setting. Demonstrated competence in interpreting, applying, and communicating detailed information, both verbally and in writing, to a variety of individuals internal and external to the organization in an effective, diplomatic, and confidential manner. Demonstrated competence in organizing and prioritizing large workloads and meeting tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy, efficiency, and production. Successful experience applying strong analytical skills and good judgment. Demonstrated skills using personal computers and a variety of software including word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database applications. Experience using Microsoft Office is preferred. Ability to understand and comply with complex federal laws, state laws, and university policies including but not limited to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Employment experience within a university setting. Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with disabilities. Employment experience that requires compliance with specific state or federal laws. The Successful Candidate Will Possess the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Effectively operate work-related equipment. Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and the public. Establish respectful and productive partnerships with students with disabilities. Represent Disability Services and its programs to others in a professional and courteous manner.
