Responsibilities

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN is seeking a fellowship trained Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon to join our Sports Medicine practice in Minneapolis, MN.  The current highly skilled Orthopedic Surgery colleagues provide advanced care in complex hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, and foot & ankle sports injuries.  The non-operative Sports Medicine staff in the department also provide state-of-the art care, including regenerative medicine interventions, and has world renowned experts in the areas of musculoskeletal ultrasound.  The Department also supports an ACGME-accredited fellowship in sports medicine for two Orthopedic Surgery residency graduates annually. Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine provides comprehensive coverage for several professional teams, including MLB, NBA, and WNBA.  Interest in professional team coverage, particularly for the Minnesota Timberwolves NBA and Minnesota Lynx WNBA teams, would be ideal. 

A strong commitment to integrated clinical research and orthopedic education is expected.  The position is 1.0 FTE clinical/surgical into which the candidate is expected to build a clinical research and education footprint. Protected time for research and education can be earned competitively as the clinical practice matures, but the primary focus is establishing a differentiated, destination surgical practice, and professional basketball team coverage. 

This successful applicant will work primarily at Mayo Clinic’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine facility in Minneapolis, MN, with surgical privileges in Rochester, MN.  These facilities are state-of-the-art containing specialists in orthopedic surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, musculoskeletal radiology, athletic training, physical therapy, sports nutrition, and sports performance.



Qualifications

Must be board-certified/board-eligible in Orthopedic Surgery with fellowship training in Sports Medicine, and eligible for medical licensure in the State of Minnesota. Must be Sports CAQ certified with 5 years of clinical experience. Candidates should also have outstanding clinical and teaching skills, and experience in basic, clinical or translational research.

Compensation Detail

The minimum starting salary range for surgical specialties may range from $279,000 to $814,000. This range reflects full-time total base compensation prior to consideration of additional experience or duties. Pay for the selected candidate may vary based on specialty, experience, FTE, internal equity, or external market data.
