**Employment Type:** Part time **Shift:** **Description:** Follows established procedures to prepare, process and screen cytology specimens in a timely and accurate manner. The cytotechnologist has abnormal pap and non-gynecology smears confirmed by the pathologist. Reports cytology results in compliance with hospital, state and federal regulations and standards. **QUALIFICATIONS** **Education** Minimum: Bachelor’s degree with one year of cytology training at an accredited institution Preferred: **Credentials/Licensure** Minimum: ASCP certification or eligible. Must be certified within one year of hire or promotion. Preferred: **Related Experience** Minimum: Preferred: One year hospital lab experience **Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** Minimum: Must be able to operate cytology stainer, microscope, centrifuge and biological safety hood. This position must be able to screen pap smears using the Bethesda scoring method. Preferred: Computer skills, customer service skills, troubleshooting skills **Computer Competency** Shows how to use (through a competency assessment) a standard desktop and windows based computer system, including a basic understanding of email, e-learning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software as required to perform the essential functions of the job. **Physical/Mental** Minimum: Position requires walking, standing, bending and occasional lifting of objects 20 pounds or less. Exposure to infectious disease and hazardous chemicals. All clinical laboratory testing requires concentration and attention to detail. Position requires 20 – 50% of the day be spent on computer data entry. **WORKING CONDITIONS** The conditions are fast paced with moderate to high stress. It is volume driven work and a high level of quality is necessary. Requires the ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize.
