MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To deliver safe, comprehensive and quality peri-operative nursing care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS Deliver safe, comprehensive and quality peri-operative nursing care in collaboration with a multi-professional team Identify and prevent risks to ensure patient safety Provide accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing and surgical interventions Ensure that all utilised stock and equipment are accurately charted  Create a learning environment that builds staff competence  REQUIRED EDUCATION

Diploma in Operating Room Nursing / Certificate in Peri-operative Nursing Science

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

1 year’s experience in an operating theatre environment

Infection prevention and control (IPC) principles and protocols Pharmacology Scientific nursing principles and process Nursing record keeping Patient assessment skills Nursing processes and procedures Computer literate (Microsoft Office) Develop/ modify a nursing care plan Relevant nursing legislation Basic life support trained (ACLS; ATLS; PALS training for specialised wards) Risk identification
